Tero Saarinen Dance company, Next of Kin, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre

“In terms of dance intelligence, the way these dancers exhibit their bodies in motion, is mesmerising owing to the musical aesthetic, new technology lighting but mostly the use of unique three dimensional, enthralling materials in the costume and set. The movement vocabulary is hardly technical or celebratory but then it is an error to suppose that dance should be taken for its overall impact rather than its intrinsic qualities. Next of Kin is dark and very cliché film-noir, but also an open ended, risk-taking creation that will help ensure the doors will not shut on the future of dance as an art form.”

The dividing line between the two is a thin one. Horror can swiftly turn into its opposite and force out a burst of uncontrolled laughter."

Saarisen koreografia on kuin elokuvaa

Helsingin Sanomat, May 13, 2008, editor: Auli Räsänen (in Finnish), 2008-07-29 12:28:34
”Saarisen ekspressiivinen teos sukeltaa kollektiiviseen alitajuntaan --- Saarinen on kuin kameleontti, jonka teosten lähtökohta – inhimillisyyden puolustaminen – säilyy mutta saa vaihtuvia painotuksia.”
