Joey Marijs

Percussionist Joey Marijs obtained his Master Degree at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague in 2005. During his studies, Joey grew fascinated by the Dutch ensemble scene and contemporary music. Drawing inspiration from icons like Reinbert de Leeuw and Louis Andriessen, he dove into this world in 2003, eventually joining groups like Het Muziek and the multidisciplinary musical collective Hiiit (formerly Slagwerk Den Haag). Throughout these years, he has worked closely with legendary composers such as Steve Reich and Unsuk Chin.

Joey co-founded Ensemble Klang in 2003 alongside saxophonist Erik-Jan de With, aiming to provide a platform for their generation’s composers. Two decades later, Klang boasts a massive repertoire, ranging from collaborations with electronic pioneer Eliane Radigue to premieres by the brightest new talents.
