Violist Marijke van Kooten graduated cum laude from the Amsterdam Conservatory. In 1987, she won two prizes at the National Oscar Back Violin Competition. Since 1993, she has been a violinist with Het Muziek ensemble, where she has performed numerous violin concertos in addition to ensemble works. She has also played with many leading ensembles and orchestras, including the Nieuw Ensemble, Combattimento Consort, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.
Since 2019, she has been a member of the successful music theatre company Seasession. In addition to playing in these ensembles, she plays chamber music, including in a piano quartet and a string trio.
