Mattia Russo

Mattia Russo is an Italian choreographer as well as artistic director and co-founder of Kor’sia. Born in the province of Avellino, he trained in classical and contemporary dance at the National Academy in Rome and later at the Ballet School of Teatro alla Scala, graduating in 2008. He began his professional career at the Choreographic Center of the Generalitat Valenciana in Spain, later joining Introdans and subsequently the Compañía Nacional de Danza in Madrid.

Over the years, Russo has worked with many renowned choreographers, including Nacho Duato, Mats Ek, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Ohad Naharin, Jirí Kylián, and William Forsythe. As a choreographer, he has created works for leading companies such as the Compañía Nacional de Danza, Victor Ullate Ballet, Konzert Theater Bern, and the Ballet of the Opéra national du Rhin. In 2014, he was awarded the “Young Talent” prize at the Positano Leonide Massine International Dance Festival.

In 2015, together with Giuseppe Dagostino and Agnès López-Río, Russo and co-founder Antonio de Rosa founded Kor’sia. Since 2017, de Rosa and Russo have concentrated their activity in Kor’sia as Artistic Directors, Choreographers and Dancers. Russo and de Rosa have won numerous awards for their choreographies in international competitions and festivals. Mont Ventoux was awarded the prestigious FEDORA VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Dance Prize in 2023.
