”Dance is my attempt to understand human nature and its multiple manifestations – friendship, love, strength and spirit. With my dance I want to reach the unspoken, the inexplicable, the unnamed. I believe in dance that touches, in dance that speaks for itself.”
The National Dance Company of Korea returns Tero Saarinen’s choreography VORTEX to its repertoire. NDCK will perform the work at the National Theater of Korea's Haeoreum Grand Theater on 24–26 June in Seoul and at Dance House Helsinki on 22–24 September. The creation, commissioned by NDCK in 2014, will now be seen in Finland for the first time. The primal 'vortex' of the interface between past and present, as well as East and West, is interpreted by 25 performers. The live music is by Be-being, an ensemble known for its innovative interpretations of the Korean musical heritage. The lighting and set design is by Mikki Kunttu and costumes are by Erika Turunen. Tero Saarinen was the first foreign contemporary choreographer to work with the renowned troupe, dedicated to upholding and promoting Korean dance traditions. NDCK has achieved huge success with both audiences and critics alike with the creation. In addition to several recurring seasons in Seoul, the group has also toured with VORTEX in Asia and Europe. Tickets for both events on sale now!
