TSC Studio

Tero Saarinen Company's home at Helsinki's Cable Factory is designed with dance and dancers' needs in mind. At its heart is TSC Studio, the company’s own rehearsal space, which serves as a home base for artistic creation, rehearsals and classes. TSC Studio is also available for rent to independent artists, dance schools and other professionals and hosts artistic residencies each year.

Spanning nearly 200 square meters, TSC Studio is equipped with underfloor heated Harlequin Liberty sprung dance floor and vinyl. Natural light streams in through large windows equipped with glare-preventing and blinding curtains. One mirrored wall can be veiled with acoustic drapes, shaping the space for different creative needs. Movable ballet barres and gym mats are available for dancers. The Studio has a fixed Genelec sound system.

Immersive sound system

The studio’s immersive sound system, designed by TSC’s Artist in Residence and Sound Designer Tuomas Norvio, creates a deeply physical, all-encompassing experience.  TSC Studio is equipped with 22 speakers and two calibration systems. The sound system has been made possible by Iisalmi-based Genelec, a pioneer in professional audio and immersive audio technology. Bringing together advanced technology and art, the studio with its sound system acts as a space for experiments and creativity – endorsing future creators to achieve their dreams.

“An extremely sharp sound image is traced out in TSC Studio, where even the smallest details in accents and dynamics of the sound can be heard. Even when applying the strongest sound pressures, the sound is pure, and the system functions optimally both in design work and in performance. There is no system quite like it in Finland – and even globally it is unparalleled with the most similar being in the depths of great opera houses.

What most interests me in the potential offered by TSC Studio is working with non-directional sound: when sound has no distinctive direction of source, that the listener can perceive, it can feel as if the experience happens inside the listener, getting under their skin in quite special way.” – Tuomas Norvio
