Jussi Matikainen

Jussi Matikainen (MA) is a Helsinki-based sound designer and versatile performance arts maker. He has worked for over a decade in the fields of dance, theatre, music, and visual art. Matikainen is a founding member of the WAUHAUS arts collective, whose artistic thinking dismantles naturalized binarities between humans and other species, asking how we can exist side-by-side with different beings and realities. At the same time, he has collaborated closely with choreographer Sonya Lindfors on works addressing power relations, representation, and the politics of the Black body. In his practice, sound functions as a dramaturgical and spatial subject, inviting the listener to encounter layers of time, histories, and otherness.
