Devina Boughton (they/them) is a versatile performer hailing from Portland, Oregon, currently based in Helsinki, Finland. After completing a Bachelors of Music from Berklee College of Music, Devina moved to Helsinki as a 2021-22 Fulbright Finland Grant recipient. They completed a Masters degree from Sibelius Academy’s Global Music department where they started to also specialize in Nordic shepherd’s horns. They were a 2024-25 Microtonal Music Studios Resident, and received research funding from Finlandia Foundation in Summer 2025.
Devina serves as artistic director of Symbioosi Choir (spring 2023-present), and works as a freelancer in Helsinki and beyond, as a horn player, vocalist, composer, artistic researcher, and pedagogue. In their work, Devina explores and intertwines sound worlds, playing with crossing between improvisation and composition. They are inspired by timbre, tuning, melody, groove, nature, human experiences and stories, and are passionate about interdisciplinary and cross-genre collaboration. Their art-science Flagellate Collective’s project Playing with Algae, combining micro- and macro algae with Nordic shepherd's horns, is supported a by KONE Foundation Grant for 2026.
