Training

Our morning classes at TSC Studio are designed for dance professionals seeking a holistic approach to movement. The weekly schedule includes Tero Technique and Pilates. We also organize classes and workshops led by visiting teachers and choreographers, providing opportunities to explore new approaches and deepen your artistic research. Autumn training schedule is now out and the registration for classes start in August.

Spring 2026

The autumn training schedule is out now! In 2026, Tero Saarinen Company celebrates its 30th anniversary, and the training activities pay tribute to the artists who have been a part of TSC's long history, as well as highlight the expanding community.

In the autumn, we will host different kinds of choreographic workshops. During TSC’s anniversary Triple Bill at Dance House Helsinki in September, we will host a special Tero technique workshop with a focus on partnering. The partnering workshop will look at the explorative tools and partnering techniques used by Tero Saarinen while creating Garden and include partnering materials from the piece. In October, Julia Ehrstrand will teach a four-day workshop that dives into her movement practice and choreography methods while Sonya Lindfors’ workshop in December explores community-based improvisation techniques, rooted in rhythm and groove.

During the autumn morning classes, we will awaken the body with Tero Technique and Pilates taught by TSC dancers David Scarantino, Oskari Kymäläinen, Natasha Lommi and Elina Häyrynen. The morning classes will again introduce a variety of different techniques and movement styles under the guidance of guest teachers. Autumn’s guest teachers are Misa Lommi (contemporary dance), Anu Sistonen (ballet), Axelle Munezero (whacking), Milla Koistinen (contemporary dance), and Jarmo Ahonen (Pilates).

The autumn training period starts on 17 August and will continue through 4 December. The language of the morning classes is English. Registration for the classes starts in August. Always check the individual descriptions below and our booking calendar for specific dates and times!

You can sign up via the booking calendar, which you'll find below on this page.

Workshops

In this Tero Technique Partnering Workshop we will look at the explorative tools and partnering techniques used by Tero Saarinen while creating Garden. The workshop will contain a Tero Technique warm up led by Tero Saarinen, and end in an exploration of partnering materials from the piece. The exercises will help one attune and become more sensitive to one’s own weight and how one can communicate and find support through touch.

**Please note - touch will be used as a tool in the workshop, however you are not required to participate in touch if you do not want to. Garden explores partnering through an entangled entity dialoguing with the space around it. One is allowed and encouraged to concentrate on the partnering that exists between themselves and the space during the exercises of the workshop.

Participants of the workshop have the opportunity to see the explored repertory on stage with a special workshop + performance ticket deal. The workshop thus serves as an invitation to a deeper sensory experience of the performance. The price for the ticket deal is 55 € and it includes the Tero Technique Partnering Workshop and a professional ticket to Triple Bill: Wild Is the Wind on September 22–26.

Internationally sought after teacher and choreographer, Julia Ehrstrand, teaches a workshop in TSC Studio in October. The workshop consists of three morning classes from Wed 21 October to Fri 23 October with a longer workshop, held on Saturday 24th October. The 4 dayworkshop with Julia offers an opportunity to deep dive into her practice and movement!

In Julia’s workshop the focus is on utilisizing spinal articulations and release techniques, and finding an organic way of moving. The aim is to challenge the dancer's technique and to find a maximum range of movement. Each class starts with a set technical warm up with elements of floor work, stretch and strength. The warm up flows through for 45-50 minutes, followed by working on a phrase for the rest of the class. The aim in the classes is for the dancers to find their own interpretation and flow of the movement: to make it feel natural in the body. During the workshop on 24th of October dancers have the opportunity to learn repertoire phrases from Julia’s vocabulary and then dive into some of her choreography methods, while using and deconstructing the material. Morning classes

Rooted in Tero Saarinen’s unique movement philosophy, Tero Technique explores the body’s full expressive potential through dynamic exercises and qualities familiar in TSC’s creations. Fusing elements from ballet, contemporary dance and Asian traditions such as butoh, the technique is centered on awakening the senses in the soles of the feet and recognising the weight of one’s own body as a source of movement. By holistically awakening the bodymind, the technique cultivates heightened alertness and concentration, allowing each performer’s unique frequencies to emerge. Tero Technique is taught by TSC dancers David Scarantino, Oskari Kymäläinen and Natasha Lommi.

Pilates morning classes awaken and warm up the body comprehensively for the upcoming day of movement. Pilates develops strength, mobility, and body awareness, focusing on core control and precise, breath-supported movement. For dancers, it offers tools for body alignment, movement efficiency, and the activation of deep supporting muscles. Pilates classes will be taught by TSC dancer and certified Pilates instructor Elina Häyrynen. Pilates will also be taught by visiting teacher Jarmo Ahonen. Read more about Jarmo’s morning classes below.

Misa Lommi’s classes combine improvisation, physical exercises, and choreographic work with an emphasis on flow and energy. The session begins with a calm approach, tuning into the body and waking up presence through improvisation, imagery, and gentle exercises, before progressing toward more dynamic movement and physical challenges.

The classes cover various contemporary dance techniques, such as floor work, jumps, weight transfers, coordination, body awareness and versatile use of the body. Creativity, movement flow, precision, rhythm, and expressive depth are central to the classwork. Students explore strength, speed, flexibility, and changing movement qualities through dynamic and technically demanding combinations.

In her teaching, Misa utilizes imagery and diverse movement approaches to help each student connect with their unique movement language and bodily expression. The class concludes with a choreographic sequence that integrates physicality, expression, and spatial awareness within an inspiring and encouraging environment. Read more about Misa here.

Anu Sistonen’s morning ballet classes are intended for professional dancers, advanced adults, and dance students. The class follows the typical structure of a classical ballet training class: it begins at the barre with exercises focused on warming up the body, breathing movement, and placement that reinforce technique. After a calm start, the tempo and dynamics of the movement change as the class progresses to center combinations and jumps. Special attention is given to musicality and dance expression. Axelle “Ebony” Munezero's class invites you to explore the techniques and qualities of whacking through her own artistic perspective. Whacking is a Black and queer dance form that emerged in the 1970s. Munezero’s approach stays connected to the roots of the dance while encouraging each participant to discover their own unique way of embodying and learning from it. Munezero is internationally recognized for her mastery of whacking, and is actively performing, teaching the technique and judging in competitions across the globe.

Through technique exercises, grooves, improvisation, and short combinations, the class moves through different energies, creating space for everyone to bring their own flavor and expression. With a background in both whacking and contemporary dance, Munezero is also interested in exploring how these practices meet, influence, and relate to one another. Read more about Axelle here.

Milla Koistinen’s technique, improvisation and movement research classes focus on exercises and methods she uses in diverse ways in her work as a choreographer, performer and teacher. The exercises are designed to evoke precision, clarity, energy, presence and dynamics. Through listening and observing the body the participants practice to move in an alert and articulated way. The variety in given material and improvisations prepare the body to adapt and connect information quickly. In the classes we work with tools and movement principles, which enable detailed, effortless, energetic and inventive ways of moving. These tools and principles are gradually layered and we move from simple to more complex movement terrain. Read more about Milla here.
