Mert Otsamo is a young, self-taught designer, whose roots lie in the Finnish Northern Ostrobothnia and Turkey. He has received praise and attention for both his original and distinguished style, as well as his skillful tailoring that accentuate the dramatic contrasts of the human figure. At an early age, Otsamo began making clothes inspired by cartoons and video games. Reflecting upon the fragility of life serves as a foundation for his work.
Otsamo’s first independent collection was well received, embodying his signature style, consisting of intriguing sculptural pieces. The collections that followed have gradually evolved towards more specialized patternmaking and tailoring, further distinguishing the label and Otsamo’s unique approach to design. Tero Saarinen Company’s Hz (2022) is Otsamo’s first design project in performing arts.
