We are doing everything in our power to help slow the spread of the pandemic. In line with Finnish Government guidelines we have switched to remote working and all TSC Studio activities are being suspended.
The TSC Studio premiere of Broas & Nyberg’s Truths That Never Were was cancelled, but it was live streamed free of charge at broasnyberg.com on Friday, 20 March. Dates for replacement performances at TSC Studio will be announced later.
Rehearsals and training activities at TSC Studio are suspended. TERO morning classes for professionals and Helsinki Dance Institute (Helsingin Tanssiopisto) and Tanssivintti classes are cancelled.
The Helsinki premiere season of Third Practice has been moved to March 2021.
Artistic planning for Tero Saarinen’s next creation is still progressing: Transit is a choreography for 16 dancers set to Sebastian Fagerlund’s music. It is due to receive its premiere at Malmö Opera on October 3, 2020.
We are closely following official guidance. We will always update current information first at terosaarinen.com and on our social-media channels (FB @terosaarinencompany | IG @terosaarinenco | T @terosaarinenco).
We want to act responsibly and to foster the wellbeing of our audiences, employees and partners in this crisis that has paralysed the entire sector. In addition to safety measures, we will, for example, try to safeguard the incomes of our freelances as far as our capacity can bear.
The current situation is devastating for the entire performing-arts sector, and its impact on the way – small and very much international – organizations like TSC are able to work will be far-reaching.
“Several of our engagements have been postponed – and some are in danger of being cancelled – due to the rescheduling of season programmes. It is challenging to estimate the long term effects of this crisis on international touring. ,” explains TSC Managing Director Iiris Autio.
If you wish to support our activities, check out info about our Membership programme here.
We are actively working for our audiences, to make our content accessible remotely. Negotiations are ongoing for broader digital distribution of our dance films and recordings of our works, made as international co-productions.
Recently, TSC creations have been featured for Mezzo TV and Arte subscribers. In Finland, Yle Areena has made Rooted with Wings, a documentary about Tero Saarinen’s work, and Saarinen’s Sibelius work Kullervo, available for its viewers.
Kullervo is also globally available on Stage 24 online service, and the work is part of the official selection of Finnish culture, available via the European Union delegation in the USA #HomeWithEU campaign.
